Frequently Asked Questions
How does the Online Challenge Puzzle work?
This Online Challenge is a simple and exciting variation of a word puzzle called a rebus. According to wikipedia, a rebus is defined as "a kind of word puzzle which uses pictures to represent words or parts of words." In the United States, rebuses were popularized by the television show Concentration which aired from 1958 to 1973. Rebus puzzles have also appeared as brain teasers on the inside of bottle tops and other product packaging.
The puzzle is hidden by a black-and-white checkered grid. As Sponsor Ads are purchased, more of the puzzle is revealed. Once the puzzle is revealed, it will pose a question of relevance to those in the local market. If you're the first qualified entry to submit the winning answer, you can trigger a cash payout for yourself — as well as a matching payout to an area nonprofit organization. See our contest rules for details.
How large is the Trivia Puzzle?
The puzzle grid is a square measuring 960 pixels wide by 960 pixels high for a total of 921,600 unique pixels. Since ads have a minimum unit of 10x10, there are just 9,216 individual blocks covering the picture puzzle. The minimum ad size available is 4 blocks, so the greatest possible number of advertising sponsors is 2,304 organizations.
Do I need to purchase an ad to solve the puzzle?
NO. There is no purchase of any kind required to submit an entry with your solution to our puzzle. Anyone over the age of eighteen (18) may submit an entry which requires free site registration. In the event that your entry is the first qualified submission with the correct answer, we will use the information provided with your registration to contact you.
Can I submit more than one entry to solve the puzzle?
YES. You may attempt to solve our puzzle as many times as you wish, but will be limited to one (1) entry per day. Only one (1) site registration per individual is allowed. If, in our sole discretion, we determine that multiple registrations or other fraudulent means have been used in an attempt to impact our contest results, we will disallow all corresponding submissions.
Who can purchase a Sponsor Ad?
Any person age eighteen (18) or older may purchase an ad on our Sponsor Grid, but we do have limitations on the types of ads we will run and the types of sites we will link to from our site.
If you are considering the purchase of an ad, please review our terms and conditions before placing your online order. We will not knowingly promote or link to sites that deal with pornography, violence, drugs, firearms or any type of illegal or discriminatory activity or behaviour. We also reserve the right to reject any ad for any reason or for no reason.
What are the benefits to advertising?
The Internet is a unique, cost-effective, and measurable tool for reaching potential customers and promoting your brand. Each day, traditional media outlets (newspapers, magazines, radio, and television) cover the exciting and creative developments taking place online. Think of how often you hear about Google, YouTube, iTunes, MySpace and many other sites. While we don't claim to have the visibility of Google, we expect our highly-targeted site to generate a certain 'buzz' that will provide extended benefits through viral marketing.
How long will your advertisement be online?
All ads on this site will be featured on our site through August 31, 2008. Depending upon when an ad is placed, it can be online one year from the date of our official launch on September 1, 2007. Sponsors who secure advertisements early will enjoy the benefits of bonus visibility!
Since we are offering a cash prize to the first qualified person to solve our puzzle, we expect many visitors will return to our site daily to see what new pieces of the puzzle have been revealed. This provides increased frequency for your advertising.
